The Red Barn

The Red Barn is an exciting new band from the west coast of Norway that blends genres such as jazz, folk music, and Americana. The Red Barn consists of some of the busiest and most creative musicians from the west coast, now united in The Red Barn. The freshly formed band consists of musicians Kåre Opheim (recipient of the Vossajazz Prize 2003) on drums, Toivo Fjose (Voss municipality's "Promising Youth" 2015) on composition and bass, Mathias Marstrander (recipient of Bærum's Musician Prize 2023) on composition, guitar, and pedal steel, and Aksel Røed (recipient of the Vossajazz Prize 2023) on composition and saxophones.

The project started from a shared love for jazz and americana and has been planned for a long time. The members of The Red Barn are involved in many other musical projects and collaborate with renowned artists and bands such as Sigrid Moldestad, Real Ones, Treverket, GPO, Spidergawd, havene, Toivo Quintet, Terje Isungset, and many more. The four different musicians infuse their music with their own expressions, and their versatility and musical experience enrich the creative approach to the music.

The Red Barn brings a breath of fresh air to the jazz world as they explore various genres and draw inspiration from a variety of musical traditions. With a solid background in jazz, folk music, and americana, the band creates a unique and captivating sound that appeals to a broad audience. The band are now ready to share their self-titled debut album.
